The England Under-21 star was born in Zaria but turned down the opportunity to play for Nigeria three years ago in order to pursue his goal of representing his adopted country.
However, the Sunday scandal sheet claimed that he was so annoyed about being overlooked for Sven-Goran Eriksson’s squad to face Denmark that he was about to turn his back on England.
It comes as no great surprise that the story was completely without foundation though.
"Three years ago when I first broke through, there was approaches from both the Nigerian and English associations," Shola told skysports.com.
"I spoke to my parents and to the gaffer and we chose England for all the right reasons and I have enjoyed all my international experience.
"I am a player who is looking to play at the highest level like anyone, but I am just training hard and looking to play well for my club and if that happens perhaps I might get looked at by Sven.
"So reports suggesting I was unhappy at not being called up are complete rubbish.
"I have really enjoyed my time with the England Under-21s and that makes me want to break into the full squad.
"I have not had any contact with Nigeria for three years and do not intend to."
