A couple wanted to visit Burnden Park for a last time before the bulldozers moved in and we went to watch the FA Cup tie between Bolton and Gretna (who qualified for the English cup in those days).
The Bolton supporters took the Geordie accent to be Scottish ... and they kept calling us Jocks.
We cheered Gretna on from the away end, but despite being 3-1 up with 15 minutes to play, they lost 4-3.
But ... to cut a long story short ... Gretna have come a long way since the 1990s, and sadly success has been their downfall!
They won last night, a remarkable achievement considering they were playing Edinburgh's mighty Jambos (Hearts), but it could be the end of the road for the club.
Gavin Skelton provided a fitting end to Gretna's league campaign, and possibly their history, with a superb injury-time winner.
Gretna now need a late rescue off the pitch with a buyer needed by the weekend. And if that fails ... Gretna will be a page in the history books ... and no more!
Just two years ago Hearts beat Gretna on penalties in a thrilling Scottish Cup final with Gretna a penalty kick away from playing in the UEFA Cup.
Gretna's success has cost them everything.
