Speculation had been rife that former Toon star Paul Bracewell, currently part of the England coaching set-up, would be handed the job but instead a less familiar face has been appointed.
Although not a household name Eastick has extensive coaching experience including spells with Birmingham City, Charlton Athletic, Chelsea and QPR.
With the club only fielding one Academy team instead of two from now on Eastick is likely to be the only new face on the coaching staff.
