Taylor aggravated the injury and, even though he came off at half-time in the 1-1 draw with Portugal in Agueda, the 21-year-old defender is a big doubt for Saturday's game.
Allardyce Blast For Taylor ... And Pearce!
Allardyce: "Steven Taylor should not have played on Tuesday night, and the fact that he did is very disappointing from his point of view - and very disappointing from my point of view.
"Our main job today is to find out just how bad his back is and whether he will be available to play for us against Liverpool on Saturday.
"Claudio (Cacapa) is training with us, but he is now feeling his knee and we are not expecting him to be fit for Liverpool on Saturday.
"Michael (Owen) is still in Germany and we probably will not find out the extent of his injury until he gets back early next week."
