Carroll returned to Preston with a rollicking from Sam Allardyce still ringing in his ears.
The on-loan striker, kicked out by England Under-19s at the weekend for breaking a late night curfew, resumed training with Preston North End on Thursday, but only after a dressing down from his furious Newcastle United boss.

Preston boss Paul Simpson: "Andy is back with us today.
"He had to go and speak to Sam before coming back. The lad is disappointed with what happened. But hopefully he can move on from this.
"He is only a young man and he can learn from this experience."

Carroll's stay at Preston has so far not worked out as well as he had hoped.
Four league starts and two substitute appearances have failed to bring a goal.
He was sent off at Scunthorpe a month ago for retaliation and, after serving a three-match ban, he was not selected in the 16 on duty at Ipswich.
