Twenty two-year old Ameobi is entering the last year of his contract at St James Park.
Sheffield Wednesday boss Stuart Gray has confirmed talks have been held.
Gray said ”We have spoken to Sammy’s agent, he is a quality player and he has shown that by playing in the Premier League.”
