Their chairman, Jesus Gil, has earned himself a reputation as a hire and fire manager and interfering with team matters – including once giving Big Ron the boot.
After recovering from an operation to have a pacemaker fitted, Gil watched his side lose 4-3 to Villarreal he gave the following interview to local radio.
"There’s too many passengers! They’re not going to laugh at this shirt any longer. They are not going to make fun of me," he ranted.
"Carreras, Santi and Ontero are not good enough. I feel like not paying them and any one who doesn’t like it can die."
At this point the interviewer suggests that he ought to calm down for the good of his heart, only for Gil to reply: "I’m sick of people telling me to relax. They can stick my heart up their arses!"
I’m available to write Ruud Gullit a reference for the Athletico Madrid job anytime he needs it.
