The Frenchman has also suggested that last season simply wasn’t good enough for a club of Newcastle United’s stature, in terms of where they finished in the table and how they went about the majority of games.
“It’s not what you expect at a club like Newcastle United. It’s a big club and I have always said that. The fans expect at least to be in the first 10,” he said.
“They have got a few players who they brought in last year and they need to adapt to English football maybe need more time than others.”
“I am talking about players like Remy Cabella and Manu Riviere.”
Remy Cabella showed glimpses of what he’s capable of last season in a Newcastle shirt, with one of his best performances in an away win against Hull City where he tore the Tigers to shreds.
However, he did struggle in terms of consistency when sides started to work out effective ways of dealing with him and also when they looked to bully him throughout games from a physical point of view.
Manu Riviere won’t be happy with the one goal he scored in the Premier League as he also struggled in the face of similar challenges.
It’s important that Newcastle United make the right appointment over their next manager quickly, giving that individual time to study the methods of each player, deciding on a way forward to get more out of the pair of them.
