Mick Quinn: "After the game, Alan Pardew said he felt the team played well before Steven Taylor’s red card.
"I’m not sure where that is coming from.
"To be fair to the manager, he looked agitated before kick-off because of the Yohan Cabaye stuff, and that isn’t great when trying to get a team set for such a big game.
"My sources tell me that Arsenal bid for him on Friday, but the news was only revealed/leaked on Monday.
"It was a distraction, and not having Cabaye in the team hardly helped.
"We now have three first-team players missing from this weekend.
"Cabaye won’t play. Jonas Gutierrez is injured, while Steven Taylor is out for three games through suspension.
"I love big Steven to bits and he will know he did wrong, but what a silly boy he was.
"The bench wasn’t strong the other night and now we are even lighter.
"It’s a big few days for Pardew.
"This is going to test his managerial skills. But the guy needs help. I, along with every Newcastle fan, have banged on for months about the need for multiple new signings to be made.
"Surely no more evidence is needed. Sign some players Mr Kinnear, please."
