Peter Lovenkrands: “If John Carver - or anybody else - gets the Newcastle United job this summer then they are going to need the investment that the club talked about last week.
“This season has exposed how thin the squad is with injuries and it has been a tough couple of weeks.
“It’s time for Mike Ashley to step up and put some money behind it.
“Instead of selling the big players, keep hold of them and just build around them and add to it.
“Over the years Mike has earned well with the players he has sold on in Demba Ba and Yohan Cabaye who bought in a lot of money.
“Normally when Newcastle go out and buy they aren’t bringing in to the same extent as to what has gone out.
“It’s important that Mike comes out with a little bit of a statement and invests in some big players.
“They need some good talent and some experienced players.
“They need to get the fans back on board.
“Newcastle should still try and get the young players but more importantly some experienced players.
“They need to look more like the bigger clubs in the Premier League - because Newcastle is a big enough club to be up there and they need the investment to get back up there.”
