Gutierrez has yet to play for the first team, with Footymad understanding that if he makes eight more appearances then he automatically gets a new contract.
The Argentinian is out of contract in the summer, and United don’t want to keep the midfielder.
But after a move to Velez Sarsfield fell through last week he is back on Tyneside and keen to play under John Carver - if he’s allowed.
Gutierrez tweeted: “Healthy and ready, now is a board decision.”
Gutierrez said last month that it would be one of his greatest achievements in football if he could play for Newcastle again.
