It was suggested Siem de Jong was the player the club wanted in the first place, but Joe Kinnear brought in his brother Luuk!
Alan Pardew: “It was a nice bonus for us to see that quality on the pitch from one of our new players – it was a fantastic goal.
“Siem got a great goal and showed he is going to produce those moments.
"I was also pleased with Jack Colback’s performance.
“I thought Jack was terrific in midfield.”
Newcastle actually began to falter when the Dutch international was taken off at Boundary Park after 63 minutes.
His wonder strike from the rebound of his own free-kick was the highlight of the evening as he smashed it into the top corner.
He could have had a second goal in the first half when he missed an easier chance, but Pardew may have triumphed in the transfer market.
He is not like his brother in any shape or form!
Jack Colback’s move to United caused plenty of controversy.
And the mere sight of him in a Newcastle United shirt last night sparked some angry Tweeting from Wearside.
Colback didn’t do too much wrong on his first appearance.
He got through the whole 90 minutes with an energetic display and was solid ... rather than spectacular.
Ayoze Perez came on after 54 minutes and showed some decent touches but never did anything spectacular, and I wonder how he will take to the Premier League and the biting wind and snow come November.
We will see.
