Celestine Babayaro has today completed his move to Newcastle United from Chelsea for an undisclosed fee.
A statement released by the club read, ‘We can confirm that, following negotiations with Celestine Babayaro, agreement has been reached that he will join us on January 1’.
The Nigerian international could make his Geordie bow against Yeading in the FA Cup a week on Sunday at Loftus Road. Whilst Babayaro is also available to participate in our Uefa Cup campaign having been named amongst the substitutes in Europe this season for Chelsea but never introduced.
His arrival from Chelsea is the biggest sign yet that Olivier Bernard is on his way out of the club – be it January or in the summer remains to be seen.
Meanwhile, this evening's edition of the Evening Chronicle is reporting that Jean Alain Boumsong is set to sign from Glasgow Rangers next week.
