And so was the full-back as he told the Journal: "I don't think I've hit a ball as sweetly as my goal against Charlton for a long time. It was one of those shots which you practise week-in, week-out and 99 times out of 100 they fly high or wide.
"That was one of the lucky ones and I was gobsmacked. Goal celebrations are not one of the things that I rehearse and I think that was obvious. Alan Shearer was laughing at my reaction, but I told him it just wasn't meant to happen.
"It flew in and I didn't know what to do with myself. I'm just glad Dean Kiely didn't get a touch!
"When I first came back into the team I was more concerned about making a good impression defensively," he continued.
"In terms of everything else you're not as confident as if you'd played 20 games on the bounce. Every time I get another game under my belt I feel more confident and that's why I'm starting to get forward more. It's something I enjoy.
"We showed the character and the confidence to bounce back from a goal down and after the Juve effort it was never going to be easy," Griffin continued.
"We started the game in mid-table and that's not where we belong. The victory was vital and now that we're back in the top eight we must stay there and start to climb even higher.
"There's no reason why we can't make it two wins in six days in Europe," he insisted.
It’s good to see Griffin back in the first team after his unfortunate run of injuries, even if it has left Aaron Hughes playing out of position.
The two goals are a bonus really, but if he can do it again on Tuesday he’ll have become a European legend.
