The banned boss was forced to watch on from the club’s Benton base with his match analyst.
Alan Pardew: “It was good when the goal went in.
“Me and the analyst had a little cuddle and a jump around the room!
"Up until that point it was frustrating, when Papiss missed the chance just before.
“We both thought the victory had gone, but fair play to the players and the staff who were there on the day.
“We kept pushing and we won.
“It’s given me a different perspective on watching games.
“I have learnt a little bit and will take that into my management.
“Papiss has had a difficult season and strikers do in some years.
“It is very rare that a striker can go through his career and have a successful season back-to-back and only the very best can do that.
“Papiss is a very good striker and you have got to show faith when they are having a difficult time. I’ve had that before with strikers.
“I think it is important the manager sends out the right signals and he repaid me. In the game he actually had better chances but he never fails to deliver at some point.
“I think that is the third goal he has scored in the 93rd minute so it speaks volumes for his fitness as well.”
