Alan Pardew: “I've dealt with all kinds of players in the past.
"I can think of Danny Mills and Ben Thatcher, who were a couple of hairy ones so to speak.
"What you have to do is to treat them how they want to be treated.
"They play the game with a pace and a passion and at a level that sometimes tips them over the edge.
"But what you've got to be is honest with them and say at some points ‘It's wrong and I don't want to see that’.
"But it's a drip feed effect on the training ground and that's what I'll do with Joey.
“I'm going to set the example and Joey and Andy need to understand that's what we want to see from them. Those little disciplines.
“I have no complaints about either of them.
"I've only been here a week but Joey's attitude and everything about him so far has been excellent – everything about him so far has been spot on and he was probably one of the best players last Saturday.
“Andy's a terrific lad with a big future in front of him.
"It'll be a case of him at times making mistakes and admitting to that and learning from them. And to be fair to him he seems to have done that over this first half of the season.
"The example for everybody here of course is the attitude of the senior players.
"If I can get that among all of them they we will have a good chance of having a good season.”
