Both players are subject to transfer speculation, but will they return before the transfer window closes?
It is looking touch-and-go, although midfielder Joey Barton may have to endure the boo boys in his return game later this month, with the Scouser pencilled in to face his former club Manchester City.
Kinnear hopes Barton will step up his training next week, with the player back up and running after a knee injury.
He could be joined by ex-Manchester United player Alan Smith - who has been out for the whole season with an Achilles problem.
Chris Hughton: "At the moment Joey is running, and our aim is to have him back in action within the next two or three weeks.
"He is making progress, and is not having too many problems.
"It is the same timescale for Alan, but what we have to be aware of is the fact these two lads are coming back from longer-term injuries."
