DJ Campbell: "I didn't know he was going to be captain until before the game, but Joey's Joey – he's a great player and he's been there and done it, the same as the other players that he's [Neil Warnock, the manager] brought in – Shaun Wright-Phillips and Anton Ferdinand and Luke Young.
"I'm a person who doesn't judge people until I meet them.
"And I believe that's what life should be and that's how people should be.
"He's a great lad, Joey, as the rest of the lads are. He's a good person.
"A lot of people say bad things about him but, in the time I've known him and spoke to him, he's been superb. The lads took to him straight away and I'm sure he took to the lads straight away.
"We're all in it together. We all want to stay in this league and hopefully [we will have a] better [chance] with the players that the chairman [Tony Fernandes] and the gaffer have brought in – with Joey and Shaun, Anton and Luke and players like that.
"I think we've got a great squad now to push on."
