United’s medical staff feared the worst when a challenge from Lucas Neill left Bellamy with a swollen knee on his first start for four months at Blackburn Rovers.
However, a scan showed that the problem was unrelated to his long-term knee injury and the FA Cup and international break has given him time to recover.
United’s other injury victims, Lee Bowyer and Jonathan Woodgate, are also back in full training and have a chance of playing on Saturday.
John Carver told the Evening Chronicle: "Craig Bellamy has improved every day since last Wednesday and we will be disappointed if he's not there on Saturday.
"And I have to say that Lee Bowyer has really been flying in training this week and he is up for selection.
"Jonathan Woodgate also got in an hour with us yesterday but it's a case of wait and see as far as he is concerned."
Should our international contingent come through Wednesday’s games unscathed Sir Bobby could have a full squad to choose from on Saturday, for virtually the first time this season.
