The Dutchman left the Magpies this summer in a deal worth £25 million, but claimed his former manager did not want him to leave.
“He only told me it was a big club, but he wanted me to stay at Newcastle. He said if there is not a good offer, you will stay at Newcastle,” said Wijnaldum, as reported by the Liverpool Echo.
“When we had an agreement, he said congratulations, nothing more. He was in a meeting after the game, so we didn’t have a conversation.”
