... that has been confirmed as Roeder says the defender will not play for Newcastle again.
The French player has suffered with a hip injury since signing, and has failed to make a single first-team appearance since rejoining United. Bernard now requires an operation which will sideline him for the rest of the season. Bernard is on a one-year contract and that will not be renewed.
Roeder: "He has an ongoing hip injury that is not going to go away. That will at some stage in the near future need surgery which would take him out for the rest of the season."
The Sunday Sun claim: "Bernard is on an estimated £4000-a-week, meaning he stands to pick up just over £200,000 for a year of inactivity at St James's Park".
