The former Newcastle defender feels that United should break the bank and bring in Remy Cabella of Montpellier, plus Lyon’s Clement Grenier and Alexandre Lacazette, in order to show they mean business next season.
Mind you, Bernard went on STRIKE to get away from Newcastle to sign for West Ham. Another Frenchman all wind and piss.
Olivier Bernard: “There are way too many clubs interested in Loic Remy.
“But he’s ambitious and he wants to play in the Champions League – or at least for a team that are trying to get there.
“If Newcastle want to make a statement they need to go out and get Cabella, Grenier and Lacazette.
“Then – maybe – players like Loic or Yohan Cabaye will want to be at the club.
“You have to show some ambition to be at the top.
“Newcastle needs to show players like Loic there is a change in the ambition if they want him to come back.
“Lacazette is a fantastic player who would be loved at Newcastle by the fans.
“He’s a bit like Craig Bellamy in that he chases everything and works hard for the team.
“If Newcastle signed him and Bafa Gomis it would help him.
“Gomis is a bit more of a target man, he’s a similar player to Shola Ameobi in that sense.
“They are top players though.”
“Gomis is a player that Newcastle could sign – he’s free and a very good player,” he said.
“He has all the assets. He can score goals and holds the ball up well.
“Maybe they should concentrate on getting him.
“I can’t see Grenier coming here for the money that has been talked about. It will take much more.
“Perhaps Cabella is a better target. He would come at the right price but I think Grenier has Champions League clubs looking at him.”
