The Republic of Ireland international has been out of action since February 5, and Alan Pardew already has Shola and Sammy Ameobi waiting on the sidelines to step in for Demba Ba and Papiss Cissé.
But it is refreshing to see the former Coventry City striker setting targets and be so determined to get back onto the field in a black and white shirt.
Leon Best: “Hopefully, I will get two games and it will give me a good chance to be involved again next season.
“I start running soon, so hopefully I will be back in action before the end of the season.
“That is my aim. I will push to be back.
“I am due to see the specialist again, and he will tell me when I can do other things.”
