Dyer had to watch the most-hyped player in history from the substitutes bench as England beat Turkey 2-0 on Wednesday, and was impressed as Rooney lived up to his pre-match billing.
"I only hope that Wayne is tired after playing almost 90 minutes, but we have one of the best defenders in the country to look after him on Sunday. Woody is ideal for the job," Dyer told The Evening Chronicle.
"Rooney will be buzzing, of course, and we'll need to be on our mettle against him. I thought he was England's man of the match.
"He is a fantastic talent and wasn't fazed at all by the occasion. He's some player already but is going to get even better which is frightening."
If Toffees boss David Moyes wants to leave Rooney on the bench again that’s fine by me.
