David Ginola's wife broke down in tears when she first arrived and was shown around the city; Maric slagged off the food and bars BEFORE he even signed; Hamann couldn't settle; the French connection (Goma, Domi, Bernard) threatened to go on strike if they weren't allowed to leave; and Jenas lived in "a goldfish bowl".
Even the chairman - Freddy Shepherd - said the place was full of slappers!
But new signing, Habib Beye wants to send a message to the Toon Army saying he is loving his time in Geordieland.
The Senegal international defender sent Tyneside into raptures when he headed home the winner against Birmingham City at Gallowgate to register his first goal in black-and-white.
Now Beye is keen to play his part in Newcastle's success story.
Beye: "I am feeling very good in this team and very good in this town because of them. I love the place. They are incredible fans.
"I asked the fans to make as much noise as they could because they help us so much.
"The Newcastle fans are noisier and more passionate than anywhere I have played - and that is home and away.
"A lot of people come to the stadium to represent the city and the area.
"But in Marseille a lot of people travel from far, like from Paris or outside the area.
"It's different to Marseille. Every week the stadium is full and that's great.
"We lost against Portsmouth and Liverpool and confidence was low, but we have some back now."
