Chancel Mbemba is an early doubt for Newcastle's clash with Swansea on Sunday after he suffered an injury on international duty.
The defender, who has been utilised at left-back by boss Rafa Benitez in the early part of the Premier League season, was forced off with an injury on the hour mark after scoring for DR Congo in their 2-2 draw against Tunisia on Tuesday.
He will now head back to the North East and be assessed by the Magpies' medical staff to see how serious the problem is ahead of Sunday's game.
It is hoped Mbemba has only suffered a knock and could yet be available for the trip to the Liberty Stadium but Benitez is unlikely to take any risks.
Paul Dummett has been out with a hamstring injury picked up on the opening weekend against Spurs but there is better news on the injury front as Florian Lejeune and DeAndre Yedlin are expected to be available following the international break after recovering from their ankle and hamstring injuries respectively.
