Youth team captain Adam Armstrong summed up the feeling today when he said: “We’ll never forget it.”
Indeed, the crowd of 11,664 managed to dwarf the attendance figure of 7,000 when Newcastle last won the competition and played Watford on Tyneside during the days of Paul Gascoigne.
It was also the biggest crowd since 20,558 turned out to watch the Magpies beat Wolverhampton Wanderers in the final in 1962 when a young Bob Moncur lifted the trophy.
Armstrong: “I thought it was brilliant. I seen a stat and some League One clubs couldn’t get that many fans.
“It’s just amazing and shows what Newcastle is all about. It’s all about the fans supporting the youngsters.
“For 11,000 to be there was amazing. And we’ll never forget that.”
