The former Newcastle midfielder sounded a note of realism following the 2-1 defeat at Wolves that leaves them second bottom of the table ... but you cannot help but feel it is the last act of a condemned man.
Megson: "You do become immune to the criticism. Results are not coming but we are not a million miles away from the middle of the table.
"You know it is going to be close throughout the season but we need to get results.
"People talk about pressure and the problems we've got. But we are in a great profession.
"I don't want to play that down but there are three million unemployed in this country, we are fighting a war in Afghanistan and there are all sorts of things going wrong in the country.
"It is not a case of pressure. You get the phone-ins, you get people writing in but you get on with it."
