The France playmaker scored only one goal after his £8m transfer from Montpellier in a troubled season where Alan Pardew left and John Carver took over. In August, the 25-year-old returned to Ligue 1 as part of the deal to bring Florian Thauvin to St James' Park.
Asked by L'Equipe if he regretted signing for Newcastle, Cabella said: “No. I played big teams in one of the best leagues in the world. OK, I had some bad times, that is true. I arrived in a team which was not playing.
"At certain points, I was not enjoying it. Me, I need a team which plays football. I signed for Marseille to refind something which suits me better. I am someone who integrates easily into a group. Here, I am born again.”
Cabella, who has four French caps, was signed on loan by Marseille – with a £6m option to buy next summer – to help replace West Ham's signing Dimitri Payet.
“He did great things at Marseille. But he needed time to make an impact,” he added. “And don't forget I haven't had a pre-season in two years. I went to Newcastle straight after the World Cup. And, this season, I missed all the preparation because of a tear at the bottom of my thigh. I need to be at my maximum physically because I give 100 per cent.”
