Steve Bruce confirms Paul Dummet & Jetro Willems are out for the season
Steve Bruce on players returning...
“We believe everyone else is OK.
“Whether it’s still a little bit too quick for some we’ll have to wait until we get through today.
“Most of the injured players are getting back.”
Bruce on Chelsea win...
“It’s vitally important we just keep trundling away if we possibly can.
“Certainly, when you beat one of the big boys, it helps because it’s a bit of a bonus.
“Thankfully, we’ve done it one or two times now, which is always good.”
On Jetro Willems' future...
“He’s a strong-minded individual and really the big thing now is to let him have the operation and let him recover and we’ll review the whole situation in a few weeks.
“It’s a bit too raw for all of us at the moment to speculate.
It’s not yet been decided where Jetro Willems will have operation.
“Our doctor has been in touch with theirs [Frankfurt’s] already.
“It’s now a conversation between them two. Basically, he’s their player.
“The parent club will always have the last say on it.”
Bruce on Lazaro
“It’s fairly common knowledge now that his agent was at St James’ Park at the weekend.
“We hope we can develop it. Unfortunately, when it gets out like it does, it adds to the competition.
“See what the next 24-48 hours bring.
“We are active at this moment.
“As I said to you, because of what’s just happened, we’re short in that area so we might have to look and see if we can do anything in the short-term.”
Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce is hopeful of tying up a deal for Valentino Lazaro in time for the weekend.
The Inter Milan right-winger has held talks with the club and his agent was on Tyneside to see the 1-0 win over Chelsea on a day in which he was given a tour of the facilities.
Bruce, who is also looking for a left-back, said: “We hope that the boy (arrives).
“It is fairly common knowledge that his agent was at St James’ Park at the weekend."
