He said: “I thought up until 30 minutes, till Newcastle scored, there wasn’t much between us. But after that, there was a cardinal of errors for the other two goals we gave away and the sloppiness of us.
“I think we all have to take it on the chin and make sure it doesn’t happen again.”
John Carver was pleased with his day’s work and also had praise for Papiss Cisse, who made a late appearance after racing back from the African Nations.
“We got him on a train and a plane and he got here eventually,” Carver said.
“He might have been a little bit fatigued, but I wanted to get him on the pitch because he had travelled and made the effort to get here. It shows you that everybody wants to be a part of it and that is a good thing.”
