Butt was in the news last Monday when he walked out of the Blues' team hotel after being dropped for the league game at West Ham. He has since apologised for his actions, although he was still fined two weeks' wages.
Butt is struggling to win over the Birmingham fans, just as he failed to win over the Toon Army, and I'm sure the Blues would be delighted to see him leave the club. But they are stuck between 'a rock and hard place'. If they stay up - Butt signs - if they are relegated - he goes.
If Birmingham do go down, and it is looking most likely, he will return to the Magpies.
