Defender back with boyhood club
Newcastle United’s January transfer window business was completed late on deadline day when Dan Burn became the 5th signing of the month.
The 29-year-old was released by the Magpies as an 11-year-old but has now signed a two-and-a-half-year deal to play for the team he grew up supporting.
Burn, who has previously played for Darlington, Fulham and Wigan, has been a regular in the Brighton team for the last two and a half seasons as they have looked to establish themselves in the Premier League.
The towering defender has joined for Toon for a fee believed to be in the region of £13M. As a left-footed defender he will add some balance to Eddie Howe’s back line and has featured as both a centre-back and a left-back in recent seasons as Brighton.
Burn joins fellow transfer window signings Matt Targett, Bruno Guimaraes, Chris Wood and Kieran Trippier at St James’ Park as the club look to climb away from the Premier League relegation season in the second half of the season.
