Sir Bobby Robson brought him to St James' Park and after seeing Robson, Graeme Souness and Glenn Roeder all walk out of the door, he hopes Sam Allardyce doesn't follow.
Butt Didn't Expect So Much Turmoil At St James'
Butt: "I'd had one manager all my career until I came to Newcastle - now I've had four in four years!
"It's a big club, and a club that demands success. Unfortunately, the managers haven't been able to bring that for different reasons.
"But the new manager's started off very well and got us all in tip-top shape. We did well against Bolton but it's early days. We've got to kick on from here now. I think we've got to improve.
"It's important not to get carried away, but it's all looking rosy at the minute.
It's a new start with new players, new staff and new techniques - hopefully, we can kick on from here.
"I do believe we can finish quite high up the table, qualifying for European places and have a good run in the cups."
