Having recently returned from injury it appears Eriksson will want to see a consecutive run of games from Butt before he returns to the England fold.

Butt has looked rather rusty in recent weeks and it comes as no surprise that he misses out on the chance to appear for
England at St.James’ Park next week.

Jenas and Dyer meanwhile will probably be restricted to the substitutes’ bench with Dyer the more likely to feature following his recent good form.

With Eriksson possibly going to start with the three-pronged attack of Rooney, Owen and Defoe, Dyer may even find himself introduced in a forwards’ role given his two goals in as many games for
Newcastle in a more advanced position.

Meanwhile, James Milner, Steven Taylor and Darren Ambrose link up with
England under 21’s.

Aaron Hughes is in the
Northern Ireland squad to face England and then Poland five days later.

Toon trio Shay Given, Stephen Carr and Andy O’Brien take their usual place in the
Republic of Ireland squad for their games against Israel and China.

Jean-Alain Boumsong will get another chance to cement his place in
France’s first eleven when les bleus play Switzerland and Israel.

Whilst Amdy Faye will win his second and third caps as a
Newcastle player when Senegal play Liberia before travelling to the Congo.

During the international break the remainder of the squad are off once more to enjoy the sunshine of
Dubai – perhaps Nicky Butt won’t be too disappointed after all.
