Sadly ... third off bottom in the Premiership ... and having already given away two penalties and the free-kick that cost the match against the Mackems ... not many Toon fans are laughing.

NUFC: "When asked by nufcTV if he fancied himself as United's new free-kick specialist, both Butt and the watching Michael Owen burst into laughter."

Nicky Butt: "It's a bit of a standing joke in the changing room about my free-kicks.

"I've only taken two and come closer than the rest of the lads have all season!

"So if we get another one we'll see what happens."
