Cabaye will walk straight back into Alan Pardew’s starting XI against Crystal Palace on Saturday – despite a bright display from Vurnon Anita against Southampton.
Alan Pardew: “In a game like that those players are gold dust, but fortunately for us he is back next week.
“There was no Cabaye and I thought that made a slight difference because he just unlocks the door.
“We could have used him but it was a really great effort from my team.
"Don't get too carried away.
“We like to do that up here.
“In the dressing room we are pretty collective. The effort and the work-rate in the dressing room will see us through.
“I felt we just edged it. There is a slight disappointment we have not won, but I am pleased.
“I thought it was a terrific game. There were two hard-working sides and there was a lot of quality on the pitch.”
