Even if the Newcastle faithful are happy enough to proceed without having re-signed the Frenchman, it will no doubt be a sad sight for the Geordies to see their former hero playing for another Premier League side. It may also irk them that little bit more that it is once again under Alan Pardew.
For Crystal Palace fans, though, this is hopefully the start of something beautiful. Cabaye showed touches of his usual class against Palace's German opponents and even scored a goal that was believed to be incorrectly disallowed.
It remains to be seen whether the 29-year-old can replicate the form he showed at Newcastle, when he truly pulled the strings for the Magpies - who then suffered massively upon his exit to France.
Cabaye is already looking good for Crystal Palace, though, and a bit of fitness work and game time should have him firing properly once again.
