The out of contract defender played in Scotland’s 2-1 ‘B’ international victory over Northern Ireland on Wednesday and then issued an unashamed ‘come and get me’ plea to the Old Firm giants.
"I'm not sure where I'll be playing next season but all I'm thinking about for the next three weeks is Scotland," he told the Daily Record.
"I'm not ruling out Rangers or Celtic or any club in the SPL. I could go anywhere.
"This game was good for me because teams who may be interested can see me playing at a high level."
However he later told the Press Association: "It may be not entirely what I want but I'm not ruling out going back to Newcastle.
"Sometimes you have to gamble and sadly that's the way things are in football now."
