Kenny Burns: "Sol Campbell has joined the Magpies. For a minute when I heard the news, I thought he was back at Meadow Lane.
"Thankfully not, it was the Premier League's Newcastle. Mind you, League One is about his level, he would have been better off with Notts County.
"Obviously, he and Newcastle would disagree with me on that one, but I think he is past it.
"Once again, he has moved on a free contract like he did when he left Tottenham, Arsenal (twice) and Portsmouth.
"He has always been the one with the cards in his hand, no transfer fee hanging over his head.
"In fact, the only club where he did not fulfil his contract was at Notts County.
"Campbell has made some money in wages over the years and now it is Newcastle United's turn to pay out.
"Campbell was a great defender, but now, at 35, he will get found out.
"Campbell will be needed week in, week out and I don't believe he is up to it.
"We'll have to see if he has still got it. But I believe Newcastle and Campbell are in for a tough, tough season."
