With players dropping like flies, and TEN players unavailable for the visit to Hull City because of injury, Carr has kept his nose clean and figured in all but one of the six pre-season friendlies.
With Celtic making a lot of noise over the last year about signing the Irish international, but not making a single bid, Big Sam will go into the new season knowing he has commitment from the ex-Tottenham star.
Carr: "I have had a great pre-season. Probably the best I can remember, and I feel fitter now than at any time in my career.
"I felt I was fit for the start of last season but that injury knocked me back and it took time for me to recover.
"I am happy at Newcastle, and I hope I am in the manager's plans".
One thing is certain, Sam has Carr ahead of Nobby Solano in the pecking order at right-back, despite the Peruvian having a tremendous season there under Glenn Roeder.
It looks as though Solano is seen as a right-sided midfielder, and as he said last week "as long as I gets in the team I will play anywhere".
