Tony Cascarino has said that he does not believe that Islam Slimani will be able to save Rafa Benitez’s miserable season at Newcastle this term.
The 29-year-old moved to the North East club on loan on Wednesday in a deal which will run till the end of the season.
Though he only managed eight goals at Leicester, the Algerian international has a good record during his time in Portugal with Sporting Lisbon. During three years in Portugal, Slimani went on to score 57 goals in 109 games.
Leicester were however unhappy to get the best out of him and Cascarino fears that the same will happen at the Magpies.
He told The Times: “He’s exceptional in the air and Leicester didn’t utilise that. I’m not sure Newcastle can either.
“If wide players like RiyadMahrez and DemaraiGray can’t help Slimani to score I can’t see it at Newcastle. I’m not sure this move will work out.”
