... Sunderland midfielder Lee Cattermole has beaten Newcastle's Jack Colback to the North East Football Writers' Association's player of the year for 2014.

No-one can doubt Cattermole's talent, it's the odd loose screw in his head that stops him becoming an international player.
As for Colback, the award (had he won it) would have been for his performances for the Mackems, which is a bit sad really.
Middlesbrough skipper Grant Leadbitter was also in the running for the award.
Middlesbrough’s England Under 21 defender Ben Gibson was named young player of the year, beating team-mate Adam Reach, Newcastle defender Paul Dummett and former Hartlepool Luke James.
Yohan Cabaye won the award last year at Newcastle just months before moving to PSG, and Cattermole is the 32nd winner of the title.
The award ceremony will be held at the Ramside Hall Hotel on Sunday November 30.
