Lennon now faces a mad rush to sign a goalkeeper ahead of the Europa League deadline – after he was forced to admit defeat in his bid to re-sign Fraser Forster.
Celtic made one final attempt to land the big keeper who went to Chilly Jockoland on loan from Newcastle last season, but having been told to "bugger off" more times than we care to remember, he has given up.
The move has been killed off by Forster as Celtic can’t match the keeper’s wage demands and he is also attracting interest from English Premier League new boys Norwich City, plus relegated West Ham.
Neil Lennon: “I’d like to sign another goalkeeper before the European signing deadline.
“I can’t comment on Fraser because we’ve been warned off by Newcastle already and I don’t want to be accused of unsettling a player at another club. We have in a bid so he’s a player that interests us.”
