According to SKY TV, Newcastle look to be in pole position for the services of Real Betis' Joaquin after the winger admitted it would be 'beautiful' to play alongside fellow Spanish international Albert Luque.
The player, who Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho had been looking to take to Stamford Bridge during the summer transfer window, revealed Newcastle's interest in him at the end of last month.
Joaquin is quoted in the News of the World as saying, "I've been told Newcastle have asked Luque for reports on me.
"That is good news as far as I'm concerned - I hope he told them nice things.
"It would be beautiful to have him as a team-mate and play alongside somebody like Owen who is one of the best strikers in the world."
