The Newcastle-born striker tweeted to his thousands of followers after the Wearsider’s 6-1 defeat away to Aston Villa on Monday.
Newcastle United fan Chopra, who left the Black Cats in 2009, attracted criticism in January when he mocked fellow Geordie Danny Graham for signing for Sunderland.
After Graham signed on a three-and-a-half year deal, joining from Swansea for £5m on transfer, Chopra tweeted: “Another Geordie signs for sunderland lol wonder how many mackems sign for the toon #none.”
His first post on the social network site after the Villa game said: “Last tweet of the night and last one for a few weeks coming up lets see how much Sunderland fans like this one.
“Feels great that all these Sunderland fans giving me so so much stick that they once paid my wages I think I forgot to say thank you #hahahaha.”
