The kid is fighting for a Newcastle career, and (no matter how many Easter eggs he has had in the past) he can look back on arguably the best Easter he has ever had.

The youngster struck the first goal within 13 seconds of his arrival and Shearer's spot-kick sparked a Sunderland implosion. Charles N'Zogbia made it 3-1 on 67 minutes and substitute Albert Luque added a fourth at the death to seal a victory which pushed the Mags into seventh place.

Kevin Ball: "Up until their first goal, which in some respects, we gifted them, we played very well. In the end, no disrespect to Newcastle, but we beat ourselves!

"I felt sorry for the fans because they came here hoping we could salvage some pride from a poor season, and up until that moment, we were well on the way to doing it.

"Unfortunately from our point of view now, it's made it worse.

"At times when you are down at the bottom, the under-pressure decisions you make sometimes may be the wrong ones.

"We made a decision which led to the first goal, and you saw what happened after that."
