He joined Cardiff City in January 2008 in a deal which which has previously been reported as a £4m move, but it actually went ahead for just £3m.
£500,000 was paid as a downpayment followed by £1m after the first year – both sums of money which have now been paid – and the remainder of the cash, to be paid in the 2010 close season, falls due next month.
But the cash-strapped Cardiff might struggle to pay up.
The Welsh club are supposedly in the middle of a takeover by Malaysian billionaires. But Cardiff remain in dire straits financially and were almost put into administration earlier this year over an unpaid income tax bill.
That bill was paid eventually, but the club's struggle continues – a planned pre-season tour of South East Asia has just been cancelled, while players' wages arrived later this month than normal.
