Chopra was pulled out of the England Under-20 squad to face Switzerland on Thursday at Sir Bobby’s request and has been registered with UEFA to play in Champions League games.
UEFA spokesman Thomas Giordano confirmed: "Michael Chopra is now registered to play in the Champions League."
Although the 18-year-old is likely to only feature on the bench, alongside a fit again Carl Cort, it caps a meteoric rise for Chopra who has progressed to become a regular in the reserves this season and made his full debut in the Worthington Cup clash with Everton.
Lomana Lua Lua and Shoal Ameobi look set to start in place of the suspended pair Craig Bellamy and Alan Shearer.
