Several local newspapers in Manchester had carried stories claiming that the prolific 18-year-old striker was to join Iain Dowie’s promotion chasing team for three months.
But Latics chief executive Alan Hardy said: "We have a vast scouting network and Michael Chopra is just one of a number of players that our scouts have been watching, but we are not looking to sign him.''
With Chopra so close to breaking into the first team it is unlikely that Sir Bobby will let him go anywhere on-loan, especially with those six extra games coming up.
